This week you will be writing your speech for our biography project, "A Night at the Museum." One of the most important parts of the speech will be telling your audience why your person matters. Why do we know and respect this person? How has your person made the world a better place? Tell us more about your topic, then read over your classmates' posts and respond to their ideas. Try to connect your biography person in some way to those of your classmates. Do they believe in the same ideas? Did one person influence another?
We can't wait to read all about your biographical subjects!

We know Alexander Hamilton because he fought in the American Revolution, he was Lieutenant Colonel and he was the first Secretary of the Treasury. He also wrote the Federalist Papers and was a close advisor of George Washington. Alexander Hamilton made the world a better place by fighting for independence in the American Revolution and by creating the banking system in the United States.

We know and respect Harriet Tubman because she was a Freedom Fighter. She helped slaves escape the South through the Underground Railroad that led to the North. Harriet made the world a better place by risking her own life to bring others to freedom. She taught us to fight for what is right and to help others.

My person Amelia Earhart kinda made the world a better place. A quote Amelia said repeatedly was " Woman must do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others." . She said this quote a lot which makes me think that she really wanted woman rights. Her parents fought a lot which played a big part in her life. She lived with her wealthy grandparents until she was ten. Then she lived with her dad in a poorer home. It impacted her a lot.She missed her old life. She was a very ambitious person and she went from wealthy to poor in her childhood.

People know and respect Malala because she fought for her right of education in her hometown in the region of Pakistan. She kept speaking for what she thought was right and didn't stop, even when the Taliban sent her death threats. She got shot in the head and she still didn't stop after she had been let out of the hospital. My person Thomas Paine matters for many reasons. One reason is because he made a difference during the Revolutionary war. He made a difference by writing for all of the people who were not part of the war. This helped people understand everything. But even though he did not have to do this he did to to and make a difference and he did! We respect him for all of these things he did to make a difference. Ava, I have only one question. In the letters was there any like really important part? Overall you did pretty good. In must of took a lot of time and work to write letters to the people in the war. If I were him I would probably only do 20 letters and give up. He must have been very ambitious. My person, Amelia Earhart was also ambitious. My biography is about Alexander Graham Bell. He invented the telephone. Alec was a teacher of visible speech. This is teaching deaf people how to speak. Alec was inspired to do this because of his father. When Alec was 10, his mother became completely deaf. His wife was also deaf. On August 2, 1922 Alec died. To honor him, all the telephones all over the world fell silent. Alec had changed the world. Thanks to his efforts, communications improved for all people around the world. He never gave up and he kept trying no matter what. This tells me he was a person who always showed grit.

He made the world a better place because he was an idol and people looked up to him, he was so good at baseball that even though baseball wasn't that popular a while ago, so many people came to see him, that he made baseball become a popular sport. For the biography project, I chose Jane Goodall. Goodall changed the world with new observations of chimpanzees. Not only she found new facts about chimpanzees, she saw many chimpanzees sold on the streets of Africa and saved them. Also, many people wanted to steal chimpanzee babies for experiments in labs. She gave many speeches to stop chimpanzee babies to be captured. I think that Jane is a hard working animal scientist. I admire her to follow your dreams even there are some obstacles.

I had to choose Jacques Cousteau because he was a Marine Bioalogist and that is what I want to be when I grow up. Also I when we are doing book tasting I read a few pages about him and as soon as I did that I noticed his life was very interesting. He would dive down in the sea. His goal was to reach the300 Foot marker. He was scared that he would get a rapture. A rapture it a effect when you go down in the ocean to far. This effect makes you take off your gear and you lose control and you think you can breath underwater with no gear on. He once got a rapture but controlled it. He swam down further than any human did. This is why we know him and respect him. He had many obstacles in his life but he made it past them.

For her to persuade the government to let woman vote, it took a long time. She almost went to jail because she voted when it was illegal for women to vote. She was protesting and making speeches everywhere. Finally 14 years after she died, women were allowed to vote. She also fought for young girls rights because girls were not able to go to school unless they were lucky. When woman got marry they could not have clothes or freedom.Their children would be considered the husband's child. Susan B. Anthony protested and fought so now we are here today and men, woman, and children are treated the equally. Susan B. My person is Deborah Sampson.People know and respect her because of her bravery and determination.Deborah wanted to be a soldier and serve in the army, but she was a girl so she couldn't. Although she couldn't she still found a way to be a soldier. She was going to dress up like a boy and serve in the army as a soldier. This was a big risk.Would if she got caught, but Deborah had the bravery to do it.Later on Deborah got shot in the leg with a bullet. She had to take it pout by herself so her true identity wouldn't be known. She still was determined to fight even if her leg still hurt.
