As we begin our nonfiction unit, we will be working with biographies and learning about special people who have made a difference in the world.
If you could choose to read a biography on any famous/important/special person who has influenced the world in any way, who would it be? What would you want to know about that person?

I agree that Edison was intelligent, but he was not a very good man.He made Tesla look bad.Edison got all the credit, but it was really Tesla that made the light we have in our house today.(Or used to).

I would want to know about Philippe Petit. I would want to learn about him because he tight roped between the world trade center/ twin towers. It is interesting to learn about because nobody tight ropes across really high towers anymore. The cool thing is that he actually went across without falling. The not so cool thing is that it was illegal to tight rope across a building ,so he got arrested. As you can see it seems pretty interesting to want to learn about.

I think this because , Dr.Porsche was a man who me and my dad appreciate of the following reasons : He created many , in my case , everyday exotic cars . The person that I want to read a biography about is Harriet Tubman. What I want to know about this person is since she was a slave, where did she sleep? On the ground? In a tool shed or something? Another thing that I would want to know about Harriet Tubman is how did she get so much courage and faith that she could escape from slavery without getting caught. It's amazing that she could do this. Also I would like to know how Harriet Tubman came back, from freedom, to bring her family members and other slaves to a slave- free state, and still not get caught? I think it's got to be very hard and tricky because every owner of the slaves very well knew that the slaves would try to escape because they were kidnapped and were vary scared so the owners were even more alarmed that some slave might escape and I guess they kept watch through the night. Harriet Tubman probably was very, very, scared of being caught, because back then, if the slaves did something unacceptable for the owners, they would hurt the slaves and do very bad things with them. The worst thing was they didn't get paid. So I think Harriet Tubman didn't want to work all her life without getting paid, and getting bossed around so she decided to stand up and take a risk. To me that is super incredible that someone could do this!!!

If I wanted to read about someone I would want to read about Nelson Mandela because he has went through many problem for example there was no justice at his time so it was not fair for black people. Black people could not do as many things as white people. Another problem he went through is that he went to jail for 27 years and that's very tough. Also I would want to learn about him is because even though he went to jail for 27 years he was not angry from that instead he became a president. That's very hard to do coming from jail and then becoming president. I have seen many presidents but they never came from jail. The last reason I would like to read about him is because never gave up. Even though he was a black person he believed in justice and then at last he became a president. I would want to read about him too because he did a great thing to the world. And I also dont know much about Martin Luther King junior. I wonder if it was a challenging event in his life.

The person I want to learn about is Frida Kahlo because I want to know more about her famous self portraits and what inspired her to do them. I would also like to learn more about Vincent Van Gogh because I want to know more about his paintings and why he was that crazy to cut off his left ear.

If I could read a book about anybody, it would be Susan B. Anthony and her associate Elizabeth Cartwright. She helped women get the right to vote and this is a big deal for women because only men could vote. Women got the right to vote for the first time in the US and they got to have the same rights as men. That's why Susan B. Anthony was a big role model and she is still a big role model today.

I,m reading a book about Betty Mae Tiger she is kind and brave, I know this because when she was young she always listened to what her mom and grandma told her to do.Also when she was an adult she had a husband who was a alligator tamer, one day when he was sick, Betty Mae climbed into the alligator pit even though she was scared. This is evidence how I know she is kind and brave.

My first choice of a biography to read would be Walt Disney's. I would choose Walt Disney because he created Disney World. I read his biography already and learned that he is really good at animation. I also learned that he did many interesting things throughout his life. This is why I think Walt Disney would be a good biography.

Jawaharlal Nehru was a friend of Mahatma Gandhi, and the first prime minister of India after the country got it's independence from Great Britain. Along with Gandhi, he participated in many peaceful protests and his daughter, Indira Gandhi, also grew up to become a very well-known freedom fighter and prime minister after Nehru's death. I want to know more about what type of peaceful protests Nehru took part in and why he did it.
